How do nonlinear excitations and correlated electronic interactions produce emergent behavior in low-dimensional materials and lattices? Research explores correlated electronic systems in reduced spatial dimensions including conducting polymers and graphene to understand correlation-driven phenomena. The group developed and applies a version of the functional Renormalization Group to analyze interacting one-dimensional and two-dimensional electronic systems. Work on intrinsic localized modes investigates nonlinear excitations (solitons, ILMs) in solids and Bose–Einstein condensates trapped in optical lattices to characterize localized energy modes. Collaborations study Fermi–Pasta–Ulam–Tsingou metastable states to probe non-equilibrium approaches to thermodynamic equilibrium.
