What social-ecological processes prepare systems to design effective environmental governance? The research program studies precursors to governance and processes that make social-ecological systems ready for policy design. The program uses computational and agent-based modeling to study water quality management and regulatory feedbacks in systems such as the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The program led interdisciplinary projects including Fishscape (tropical tuna modeling) and NSF CNH grants to model human and estuarine dynamics. The program develops an institutional diagnostics toolkit to assess governance readiness and guide policy design.
