He develops tools for watching molecules and cells at scales where individual interactions become measurable. His Nano-Bio Research Laboratory combines scanning-probe methods with optical, electrical, and electrochemical measurements, including nanopores and molecular junctions. Research investigates molecular recognition, electron transport, and how physical properties influence cellular behavior. Other projects develop single-entity sensing and analysis methods. For prospective researchers, the appeal is an instrument-building approach to biophysics: novel measurement systems make it possible to investigate molecular interactions and reactions inside confined spaces or complex biological environments.
