Chang connects mechanical design with the fabrication of tissue-based systems. His research includes additive biomanufacturing, biofabrication, computer-aided tissue engineering, and microscale models of normal physiology and disease. Listed work examines bioprinting of hydrogel precursors, including cell distribution and shape fidelity, and the development of a modular low-cost multi-extrusion bioprinter. Mechanobiology provides another link between fabrication and cell behavior. For prospective researchers, the group offers a setting where printing hardware, material processing, and biological requirements must be solved together to construct useful experimental tissues.
