Separating molecules is a central industrial task that can consume substantial energy. Yu studies nanostructures, zeolites, and membranes to develop separation technologies. His research record includes membranes for carbon dioxide capture, recovery of ammonia, and membrane reactors associated with methanol production. Recent work also examines ways to manufacture ultrathin zeolite membranes and improve gas separation performance. These projects connect the structure of nanoscale channels with practical processing questions, investigating how membrane design and fabrication can support more efficient chemical and material production.
