Request a correction or removal ↗ Can a biomaterial help direct the immune system toward repair? Kara Spiller investigates how immune cells, particularly macrophages, influence tissue regeneration and interact with engineered materials. Her research includes immunomodulatory biomaterials, drug delivery systems, and chronic wound healing. Studies described by the group examine how changing macrophage behavior can support vascularization and improve tissue repair. This brings immunology and biomedical engineering together around a specific challenge: designing materials that work with cellular responses during healing rather than treating those responses as an afterthought.
