What could electronics and energy devices do with materials only a few atomic layers thick? Yury Gogotsi leads research on MXenes, a family of two-dimensional carbides and nitrides, alongside carbon-based nanomaterials. His group discovers, synthesizes, modifies, and assembles these materials, combining them with other nanostructures to tune their properties. Research spans energy storage, healthcare, optoelectronics, and communications. The focus connects materials chemistry with processing and device possibilities, giving newcomers a concrete route into the science behind next-generation functional materials.
