Rena Bizios investigates the interface where living cells meet engineered materials. Her research examines cell–material and protein–material interactions, including responses to nanostructured biomaterials, with applications in implants, tissue engineering, and regeneration. Work also explores how physical stimuli such as pressure and electrical current influence cell functions relevant to new tissue formation. The program connects biomaterial design with cellular behavior, asking which features make a material compatible with biological systems and how engineered environments might support the repair or formation of functional tissue.
