How do post-translational modifications communicate cellular information and control signaling networks? The Scheck Research Group develops new chemical biology tools and selective chemistries to decode complex PTM networks. Researchers combine integrated mass spectrometry and chemical biology approaches to track, capture, and predictably modulate specific PTMs such as glycation, ubiquitination, and phosphate B-elimination. Ongoing projects apply these methods to understand PTM integration into signaling in living cells and to identify potential therapeutic targets for neurodegeneration, infection, autoimmune disease, cancer, diabetes, and aging. The lab actively recruits postdoctoral researchers and students for NIH-funded projects on glycation and ubiquitination.
