How do tubulin cofactors and regulatory pathways control the availability and assembly of alpha/beta tubulin dimers inside cells? The group investigates regulatory mechanisms for tubulin biogenesis and polymerization using biochemical and structural approaches to link tubulin pools to microtubule function. The group determines cryo-EM and other structural states of tubulin cofactors to reveal molecular mechanisms of tubulin assembly and degradation. The group reconstitutes microtubule polymerization and depolymerization with purified TOG-domain proteins to map mechanisms of plus-end tracking and polymerase activity. The group combines genetics, biochemistry, and microscopy to test how microtubule-associated proteins tune dynamics during cell division.
