How do lifecourse factors and vascular risks contribute to dementia and cognitive decline in diverse older adults? The group conducts epidemiologic cohort studies including the oldest-old and multiethnic cohorts to measure dementia, mild cognitive impairment, and brain pathology. Researchers lead NIH-funded studies (R01, RF1) investigating lifecourse health, cerebral pathology, and ethnic disparities such as the KHANDLE and LifeAfter90 cohorts. The team examines vascular contributions, glycemia, adipocytokines, and Type 1 Diabetes as predictors of late-life cognitive health using longitudinal clinical and biomarker data. They use neuroimaging and neuropathology assessments within the UC Davis Alzheimer's Disease Research Center to link imaging biomarkers with cognitive outcomes.
