Why can people with diabetes experience reduced exercise capacity even without obvious complications? Jane Reusch investigates the molecular basis of impaired physical function in youth and adults with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Her research includes interventions that test whether medications improve exercise function, alongside studies of sex differences and responses to exercise training. Collaborations use advanced cardiac and vascular imaging to investigate these questions. This connects metabolic biology with clinical physiology and the measurable ability to be physically active.
