Materials that change shape or respond to their surroundings can become building blocks for new devices. Wang’s group combines mechanics, materials science, electronics, and chemistry to study soft responsive materials and multifunctional structures. Projects examine magnetically responsive structures with multiple stable configurations, flexible and pressure tolerant electronics, and systems designed to integrate with biological environments. Soft robotics is another central direction. This research connects the physical behavior of materials with functional structures relevant to robotics, human health, and flexible electronic technologies.
