Eric Furst investigates how microscopic interactions determine the behavior of soft materials. His research interests include colloids, polymers, particulate gels, directed self-assembly, and the structure and rheology of complex fluids. Microrheology probes mechanical behavior at small scales, including active and nonlinear responses that can differ from simple bulk measurements. Connections to cell biophysics and controlled therapeutic delivery extend the work toward biological applications. The program links material organization, motion, and mechanical response, helping explain how collections of small particles become gels, structured fluids, or deliberately assembled materials.
