Thomas Forsthuber investigates what happens when immune responses attack the body’s own tissues. His group studies T-cell contributions to autoimmune disease, including experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis as a model of multiple sclerosis and experimental autoimmune myocarditis. Research aims to understand immune mechanisms and explore ways to modulate them, with biomarkers and potential treatments as translational goals. Collaborations also examine T-cell responses in childhood brain tumors. The work connects cellular immunology with neurological and cardiac disease, emphasizing how the same immune machinery can protect or damage tissues.
