Thomas Epps designs polymers whose nanoscale organization gives them useful properties. Research directions include ion-conducting membranes for batteries, polymer thin films and coatings, and responsive assemblies for drug delivery and gene therapy. His group also investigates materials made from biological feedstocks and plastic waste, asking how recovered resources can become higher-value products. Synthesis and characterization connect molecular design with structure and function. The work brings soft-material science into energy storage, biomedical delivery, and plastics sustainability, with nanostructured assembly linking these otherwise different applications.
